Studying Abroad
Herbert Presidential Scholars are encouraged to take advantage of a one-time study abroad benefit. Scholars are eligible to receive the study abroad award ($1,000) at any time during their full-time enrollment at Indiana University. The study abroad award can be used for any study abroad program offered for direct credit through Indiana University and approved through the Office of Overseas Study.
Upon completion of your study abroad, please submit a two-page Word document of a brief reflection on your experiences studying abroad.
For a complete listing of the study abroad programs available through Indiana University go to: Education Abroad.
Other overseas study abroad experiences that fall outside those administered or co-sponsored by Indiana University may be eligible for the study abroad award but will be reviewed by the Herbert Presidential Scholars university-wide committee on a case-by-case basis.
Scholars should follow OVST instructions for non-IU programs. Learn about the procedures for Non-IU programs. These instructions will provide guidelines on how/when to register for a non-IU program through the IU system so that the award flows into the bursar system and participation in a program is duly recorded. PLEASE NOTE: Scholars are strongly advised to apply for their study abroad benefit at least 30 days prior to departure; however, post-travel reimbursement of the award will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and cannot exceed 60 days past the scholar's return.
